A very scary accident with road debris

Here’s a good tale on the dangers of road debris from Salisbury Elementary School health care clerk Lisa Davis Adler.

While heading to work last Monday, Adler drove over a piece of metal on Bridge Road. It turned out to be a leaf spring used to hold up a truck axle, and it came in contact with Adler’s car when the tires of the vehicle in front of her kicked it up and through her windshield.

“It shattered my window, tore up the roof of my car, sliced up the passenger seat, broke the sunroof. It then came down and hit me on the side of the head and face, leaving a large bruise,” Adler said. “The police and insurance adjuster repeatedly told me I was lucky to be alive and I was fortunate to have no passengers in my car.”

This was not a light piece of debris, weighting about two pounds, Adler said. Had it come through the driver’s side of the windshield, it could have been fatal, causing an accident that could have affected many others.

“It made me realize the amount of road debris that is on our roads and how they should be avoided at all cost,” Adler said. “I am very fortunate to be alive and just want people to know the dangers of this problem.”
