---- — WEST NEWBURY – Four students from the Pentucket Regional Winter Color Guard are heading to New York City next week to rock out at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Tenth grader and guard co-captain, Casey Saitow, junior Alyssa Frost, and freshmen Katie Harriman and Dana MacMullen auditioned for, and were selected, to perform on the flag line of the Macy’s Great American Marching Band.

For Saitow – who has participated in the Pentucket guard for 3 years – this marks his second year performing with the Macy’s band. The four students will not only be representing their high school, but also the state of Massachusetts. This year Pentucket’s guard will make up 10 percent of the flag line for the Macy’s band.

Under direction of musical professionals from Ohio State, Auburn University, and the University of Illinois, the band is made up of more than 250 student musicians, color guard, and dance performers from every state. Top drum and bugle corps professionals affiliated with the Chicago Cavaliers and world-class color guard, Pride of Cincinnati, will direct the student color guard and dancers.

When not rehearsing for the parade, the Pentucket students will tour the Big Apple, attend a special Thanksgiving dinner dance, and take in a Broadway show.

“I am thrilled that our students have such a wonderful opportunity to participate in this program and have the opportunity to meet other students from all over the U.S. I am sure they will make lots of new friends, and have the experience of a lifetime as millions of spectators watch them on the parade route,” said Pentucket’s color guard founder and director, Lisa Arsenault, who is chaperoning the trip.

Comprised of 10 high school and seven middle school students, the Pentucket Winter Color Guard rehearses every Monday and Thursday night at the high school. Other members include co-captain Kalyn Cochran, Molly Brown, Hailey Darcy, Mackenzie Eason, Hannah Emery, Natalie Harriman, Arianna Hopper, Breanna Noone, Jackie Satkus, Jenna Symonds, Britney Taylor, Helena Wedding, and Selina Wedding.

The guard’s competition season runs from the last week in January to the first week in April. Their show this year is called “The Power of the Dream” and features music by Celine Dion. The schedule of performances is posted on the Pentucket Music Department website.

“This is show you don’t want to miss,” said Arsenault.

The group will also perform with the Pentucket High School Band in the Lowell City of Lights parade on Nov. 30 and the Merrimac Santa Parade on December 1.

Any student entering grades 7 to 12 living in the district can perform with the Pentucket Color Guard. For more information contact Arsenault at pentucketcolorguard@yahoo.com or 978-764-1796. Sign-ups for next year will be held in May and September.
