Screening Room fundraiser to end next week

NEWBURYPORT — Managers of the Screening Room cinema, who have reached their goal of $60,000, have announced that their fundraising effort will end Monday.

It can’t end earlier, said Andrew Mungo, co-owner. Extra money will be used to service equipment.

“The Screening Room is relieved and delighted to announce that its Kickstarter digital fundraising effort is an unqualified success,” said Mungo.

“The fund is approaching $65,000 on a $60,000 goal.”

He said it is not possible to stop a Kickstarter campaign outside its prearranged time frame of Oct. 14. The conclusion was set in advance on the fear that there would need to be a last-minute push.

He said any additional funds would be used accordingly:

Maintaining projectors —Servicing the new digital equipment is more costly than working with the 35mm projectors with a $3,000 annual service contract on all estimates, he said.

Supporting current equipment — The sound system and screen are quickly reaching end-of-life. The fund will help either maintain or replace or upgrade as new systems are needed, he said.
