Mary Baker Eddy house opens for tours May 1

The Mary Baker Eddy Historic House at 277 Main St. will again open its doors for guided tours from May 1 through Oct. 31. The house will be open the first Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; also by appointment (48-hour advance notice required).

Mary Baker Eddy, the founder of Christian Science, is the only American woman to found a worldwide religion. In the Amesbury home of Sarah Bagley, Mrs. Eddy, known at the time as Mrs. Glover, found a quiet refuge. Here she did some of her earliest writing on Christian Science. She lived in the house during the summer of 1868 and again for several months in the early spring of 1870. Its furnishings have remained substantially unchanged since the mid-1800s.

Suggested donation: $5; museum members and children under 12: free.
