This Day in History

On this date in 1905, a monument honoring the First Settlers of Newbury was placed on land owned by William Ilsley. Many of the early families, including the Poores, Doles, Plumers and Ilsleys, lived at the Lower Green where the first settlement was made, which was why this site was selected for the monument.
