---- — Mass Audubon’s Joppa Flats Education Center, located at One Plum Island Turnpike in Newburyport, is a natural history education and visitor center that is open to the public Tuesday through Sunday and Monday holidays, 8:30 to 4 p.m.

SATURDAY MORNING BIRDING

Weekly trip with experienced leaders in a search for avian activity in the Newburyport and Plum Island area. For beginners and birders of all skill levels.

Today, 9 to 11:30 a.m.

Meet at Joppa Flats Education Center, One Plum Island Turnpike, Newburyport.

Fee: Adults $10; children ages 8 and older, $7. Registration is not required.

NATURE ART CLASS: MAKING AND KEEPING A NATURE JOURNAL

Join teacher and naturalist Jan Morris to create your own nature journal. Use pencils, crayons, markers and observational skills to sketch what you see in nature. For children ages 6 to 10.

WEDNESDAY MORNING BIRDING

Join Joppa Flats Sanctuary Director Bill Gette and USFWS veteran David Weaver for this weekly birding field trip in the Newburyporta and Plum Island area. Appropriate for all birding levels.

Wednesday, June 26, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Meet at the Joppa Flats Education Center, One Plum Island Turnpike, Newburyport.

Fee: $17. Registration is not required.

DINNER WITH THE HERONS

Enjoy a seaside picnic while watching the evening flight of herons, egrets, and ibises to the largest heronry in Massachusetts, Kettle Island in Manchester.

Thursday, June 27, 6 to 8 p.m.

Meet at the Coolidge Reservation on Route 127 in Manchester.

Fee: $16. Registration is required

NATURE ART CLASSES AT JOPPA FLATS: KEEPING A NATURE JOURNAL

Children ages 6 to 11 are invited to learn how to make their own “wow” works of art in this Monday morning series with teacher Jan Morris.

Coming up: July 8, Nature Journals, July 22, 29, and August 5, Watery Water Paints.

Materials will be provided.

MEET BEACH CREATURES AT JOPPA

Before the beach, after the beach, or instead of the beach, drop in at Joppa Flats and visit the animals in the marine touch tanks for trouble-free tide pooling. All ages welcome. Children must be accompanied by adults.

Dates: Tuesdays through Saturdays in July and August, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
