This Day in History

On this day in 1851, Abner Kenneston and 184 others presented to the General Court their petition, “praying that the area of Newbury known as Belleville may be set off from Newbury and incorporated into a town by the name of Belleville.” Instead, the area of Belleville became annexed to Newburyport allowing Newburyport to become a city.
