Port compost center extends weekend hours

Newburyport Daily News

---- — NEWBURYPORT — The hours for the city’s yard waste and compost center on Crow Lane have been extended for today and tomorrow, city officials say.

The facility will be open today from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

For the remainder of the season, the facility will be open Tuesdays through Fridays from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The center will close for the season on Dec. 1, according to Molly Ettenborough, who supervises recycling issues in the city.

Curbside leaf pick-up will be held on a residents’ regular trash day during the weeks of Nov. 12 and 26 and Dec. 10.

Residents are asked to put out bags by 6 a.m. Leaves should be in brown paper bags or in marked barrels.

No brush or branches will be picked up. Ettenborough says that bagged leaves should be free of any sticks or branches as these leaves are going to a local farm.
