Holiday schedule for trash and recycling pickup

---- — NEWBURYPORT — City officials are reminding residents there will be no trash and recycling pick-up on Tuesday, Jan. 1, New Year’s Day.

For the remainder of next week, trash and recycling collection will be delayed one day. Tuesday’s trash and recycling will be picked up on Wednesday and there will be a one-day delay each day thereafter. However, while Friday’s residential collection will be delayed until Saturday, collection in the downtown business district will remain on Friday.

Those with questions can call Mello Disposal for trash at 978-352-8581 and IPR for recycling at 800-933-3128, according to a statement from city officials.

During the month of January, Christmas trees will be picked up on residents’ regular trash day.

Any trees picked up before Jan. 12 will be taken to Tendercrop Farm’s growing fields in Newbury for a community-wide bonfire that evening being sponsored by the Newbury Fire Department. This event will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. and is open to the public. The museum and visitors center at Spencer-Peirce-Little Farm will be open, vendors will be on hand and many activities are planned. All proceeds will go toward purchasing new fire equipment for the Newbury Fire Department. For more information on the event, call the Newbury Fire Department at 978-462-2282 or visit

Trees picked up after Jan. 12 in Newburyport will be taken to the Wheelebrator disposal site in North Andover.

The Crow Lane Recycling Center will be open for the monthly Recycle Event on Saturday, Jan. 5, from 8 a.m. to noon. Electronics, white goods, metals, oil, oil-based paint, bicycles and tires will be accepted. The next Recycle Event on Feb. 2 will include a Styrofoam recycling drop-off.
