This Day in History

On this day in 1882, the Wheelwright Scientific School corporation was established with the intent that a school of science be erected in Newburyport, provided that no more than $50,000 be expended on the buildings. If that amount was thought to not be sufficient, then the funds would be used for scholarships for students majoring in the sciences.
