---- — NEWBURYPORT — The applications for Community Preservation Act grants are now available in the Planning office at City Hall. They must be returned by Feb. 13.
Applicants can also download the documents at http://www.cityofnewburyport.com/community-preservation-committee.
Community Preservation funds may be used for the following purposes: to acquire and preserve open space, historic resources, affordable housing, and recreational resources.
City leaders say that during the last fiscal year, the Newburyport Community Preservation Fund received $653,277. That money comes as a result of voters approving a 2 percent real estate surcharge that was matched by state funds for total revenues of approximately $818,000.
These revenues, when coupled with other reserve and previously uncommitted CPA funds, brought the total amount of available funding to $956,000.
The Community Preservation Committee recommended, and the City Council approved, 16 projects for appropriations or reservations totaling $928,506, according to city officials.
