This Day in History

On this day in 1798, William Wheelwright, credited with key 19th century economic/industrial development in South America, was born in Newburyport. Wheelwright provided modern infrastructures, including transcontinental telegraph and railroads, allowing England and the U.S. to have access to South America’s raw materials and ports.
