Merrimac yard waste site to open April 13

---- — MERRIMAC — The yard waste site will be open ever Saturday from mid-April to November and in January from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Opening day for the site, located on Broad Street between the intersection of Eeat Main Street (Route 110) and the Dunkin’ Donuts, is April 13. It will remain open through Nov. 30, weather permitting.

Brush dates are April 13, 27; May 4, 18; June 1, 15, 29; July 13, 27; Aug. 3, 17, 31; Sept. 14, 28; Oct. 5, 19; Nov. 2, 16, 30. Brush in addition to yard waste is accepted on these dates.

Christmas trees will be collected Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014. Drop off at the Mill Street site.

The site is for residents only and is not for commercial use. Town stickers are required for making drop-offs. Town stickers must be renewed yearly. Stickets are $10 per vehicle and residents can purchase them at the selectmen’s office. A valid vehicle registration must be presented at the time of purchase.

In the summer and fall, acceptable items include leaves, grass and clippings. Sticks, branches and garbage are now allowed. Residents are required to take all bags with them.

No roots, dirt, trash or trunks over 3 inches in diameter will be accepted on brush collection days. Lay sticks and branches neatly in piles.

Containers will be located onsite for disposal of electronics and white goods. Items containing refrigerant will not be accepted. There is no additional fee for disposal of those items.
