NEWBURYPORT — A group concerned about the “rising of the sea” is scheduled to discuss the issue at a meeting on Monday, March 25, at 6:45 p.m. at the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge headquarters at 6 Plum Island Turnpike in Newburyport.
Steve Miller, who is coordinator of the Coastal Training Program at Great Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve in New Hampshire, will speak.
Miller is associated with the New Hampshire Coastal Adaptation Workgroup, a collaboration of organizations working to help communities in New Hampshire prepare for the effects of “extreme weather events” and long-term climate change.
This is the third meeting of the Massachusetts group.
Organizers say they are interested in discussing sea change and coastal erosion, and to “start a conversation” about how communities can deal with coastal issues, such as zoning and construction.
Some say they are concerned about recent erosion at Plum Island, and want to learn how to react to higher seas and changing dunes and sand bars.
