Fire Department holds open house Sunday

Newburyport Daily News

---- — AMESBURY — The Amesbury Fire Department welcomes local families to a free open house on Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. The open house, sponsored by Papa Gino’s, is aimed at teaching families about fire safety and prevention practices. The open house will be held at Fire Department headquarters, 17 School St.

The open house commemorates National Fire Safety Month. Participants will receive safety tips such as “stop, drop and roll” and learn how to plan escape routes. There will also be demonstrations such as Jaws of Life, handling a fire hose and high-angle/confined space rescue. This year’s open house will use audience participation for a “responding to a car fire” demonstration as well. Papa Gino’s will provide free pizza and children’s fire safety coloring sheets at the open house.

“This event allows us to reach out to the community and arm local families with fire safety tips and procedures,” said fire Chief Jon Brickett in a press release. “Our open house allows families to get together and better prepares them to react if a fire does start.”

The open house is part of a broader community relations campaign sponsored by Papa Gino’s to encourage families to learn about fire safety.
