---- — NEWBURYPORT — Kristen Creech and William Mosebach are walking from the tip of northern Maine to southern Florida to raise money for veterans’ families. They will be in Newburyport on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at City Hall auditorium, where they will greet the mayor and all others who come out to meet them.
Creech was born on June 13, 1987, in West Palm Beach, Fla. She was inspired to hike the East Coast Greenway trail from Maine to Florida because she wants to help an amazing cause. Mostly, she knows this journey will become a part of her heart because of the growing she hopes to experience with each step taken.
“I have had a lot of friends in my life going in and out of the military. I have said goodbye to some and never got to see them again. I have seen the effects on their families and loved ones. It’s a pain nobody should ever have to go through and if I am able to say I have helped, even in a little way, I will walk to the ends of the earth.”
Mosebach was born Oct. 6, 1980, in Pittsburgh. He now lives resides in West Palm Beach and is an Army veteran, having served four-plus years as an airborne medic in the 2-503rd 173rd Infantry Battalion in Vicenza, Italy. During his service he was deployed to Northern Iraq and inserted by means of a combat jump, the first and only during the war, where he spent a year tending to the wounds of brothers that he will never forget.
“I first chose to make this trip simply to prove to myself that I could make it. With the memory of my brothers during the war comes the thought of the families they left behind. We decided that we needed a cause. Who can help these military families? Who helps their children? Well, now I have an answer … We do.”
The public is welcome to meet them on Wednesday.
