Triton says 'bienvenue' to French students

Newburyport Daily News

---- — BYFIELD — The Triton Regional School District has welcomed 23 students from the Lycée Saint Joseph in La Roche-sur-Yon, France to study here for two weeks. The exchange students arrived Oct. 19 and will be in the community through Nov. 2.

While in the U.S., the French students will be studying Colonial America, perfecting their English skills and trying their hand at American life while staying with families in the Triton community. The visiting students will also be taking trips to Boston, Cambridge, Lexington/Concord, Salem and Charlestown and are contributing to Saturday’s Triton is Haunted! fundraiser.

In April, Triton students will complete the exchange by traveling to France to visit Paris and to study the parallels between the American and French Revolutions as well as the Vendée (in the Loire Valley) of yesterday and today. Once in La Roche-sur-Yon, Triton students will live with the families of the students who stayed with them this fall.

The French exchange students attended a welcome reception yesterday with Triton Regional High School Principal Kathryn Dawe.

This is the third year of the Franco-American exchange between Triton and Lycée Saint Joseph.
