---- — SALISBURY — Culinary Arts students at Whittier Tech cooked and served a St. Patrick’s Day Luncheon to 85 seniors at Salisbury Council on Aging yesterday.
Dressed in their green finery, the seniors enjoyed a buffet lunch of corned beef, cabbage and Irish soda bread, but were especially thrilled by the company of students who socialized with them during the lunch.
“They look forward to this all year,” said Liz Pettis, director of Salisbury COA. They ask, ‘When are the kids coming? When are the kids coming?’”
“They are wonderful,” said Renee Arrington, 90, of Byfield. “They are so sweet and polite, and the food is delicious.”
As students left through the kitchen door, all the seniors’ hands went up in a collective wave of thanks and goodbye. The luncheon is one of several community service events performed by Whittier students in the eleven Whittier District communities each year.
