This day in history

On this day in 1775: The selectmen of Newburyport voted to grant Ebenezer Morrison the right to set up a potter’s kiln at or near the northwest side of Old Hill Burying Ground behind the Mall. Nearby this site was a large deposit of red clay from which he made utilitarian ware including jugs, crocks, plates, cups, etc.
