This Day in History

On this day in 1857: Newburyport native Pastor William Parsons Lunt died in Arabia on his way to Jerusalem and was buried in the sand near Akaba on the eastern arm of the Red Sea. During his life, Parsons delivered a sermon which is said to be “worthy of a place beside any funeral oration of ancient or modern times.” It was at the funeral of John Quincy Adams.
