Farewell party Feb. 15 for children's librarian

NEWBURY — Children of all ages and their parents are invited to the Newbury Town Library on Wednesday, Feb. 15, from 5 to 7 p.m. to wish their children's librarian, Laurie Collins, a reluctant farewell.

She is leaving Newbury for her new post as children's librarian in Ipswich, effective Feb. 21. There will be tears all around.

Collins joined the Newbury Town Library 12 years ago in May, immediately establishing great relationships with the children. Her story hours are legendary.

"The children will miss her very much," said library trustee Lois Smith, "but their mothers will miss her even more."

Victor Dyer, director of the Ipswich Library, said, "We are delighted to welcome Laurie to Ipswich. Our former children's librarian is retiring after 30 years. We look forward to Laurie joining us."

Refreshments will be served at the farewell festivities in Newbury.
