Zach Field to discuss gong meditation

Tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. at The First Religious Society, 26 Pleasant St., Newburyport, Zach Field will present a percussion and meditation session. Field has been the director and proprietor of the percussion studio, Zach Field Drum Studios, at the Tannery in Newburyport for more than a decade. In 2010 he began The Gong Meditation Project as a means of helping himself and others find ways to escape from the everyday stresses of life. After years of attempting silent meditation, he found that playing soothing pitched gongs enhanced the meditation process by helping distract the mind and encouraging a relaxed state. His service, entitled “Gong Meditation and Relaxation,” will provide a brief history of his own journey into using gongs and will offer some meditation tips. He will then invite the congregation to engage in a 20-minute gong meditation.
