Cole takes out nomination papers for May election

WEST NEWBURY — Kimberly Cole is the first candidate to pull nomination papers to run for municipal office in 2013.

Cole, who took out papers yesterday, is hoping for another 3-year term on the Board of Health. Also serving on the health board are Blake Seale, whose term expires next year, and Robert Janes, who serves until 2015.

Thirteen municipal seats will be filled on the annual ballot at the town election on May 6.

Pentucket’s Chris Wile said yesterday that he would be deciding “in a week or so” whether he will seek another term on the regional school board. Also representing West Newbury on the committee are Chris Reading, whose term expires in 2014, and Jill Eichhorst, who is seated until 2015.

According to Town Clerk Michael McCarron, other candidates whose 3-year terms expire this spring are Dick Cushing, Board of Selectmen; Stephen Alvino, Glenn Coffin and Brian Richard, constables; Alexandra Guralnick, Marcia Sellos-Moura and Lucile Waehling, Board of Library Trustees; Cheryl Hoenemeyer, Board of Assessors; Greg Pope, Park and Recreation commissioner; and Albert Knowles Jr., water commissioner. Knowles is also serving as chairman for a term on the Board of Selectmen that expires in 2014. Glenn Kemper, who holds the third selectman’s seat along with Cushing and Knowles, is filling a term that expires in 2015.

A 5-year term on the Planning Board, currently held by Ann Bardeen, will also appear on the ballot in May.

Nomination papers are available in the town clerk’s office for any resident wishing to run for office on the annual ballot. The last day to obtain papers is March 7 at 5 p.m. Nomination papers signed by at least 23 voters registered in West Newbury must be returned to the clerk’s office by March 12 at 5 p.m. The Board of Registrars then has until March 25 to certify the signatures and candidates wishing to withdraw their candidacy or anyone who wants to formally object to a candidate’s name to appear on the ballot has until March 27.

The last day to register to vote is April 9. Registrars will be taking registrations in the town clerk’s office from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. that final day. Voters may also register with the town clerk at other times, at the Registry of Motor Vehicles and certain other state agencies.

The Annual Town Meeting is April 29 and Town Elections are on May 6 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the Town Annex.
