Golden Age Club back in action for 2013

NEWBURYPORT — The Newburyport Golden Age Club ushered in the new year with its first meeting of 2013 on Jan. 2. The meeting opened with a prayer, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and singing of the national anthem.

Happy Birthday was sung to members Beverly Cronin and Betty Gorman, whose birthdays are in January. Wally Thurlow and Gene Tatro won the raffle.

The potluck meal planned for the next meeting has been postponed at the decision of the membership, which agreed to adopt a different refreshment plan for its winter meetings. Refreshments for the January, February and March meetings will be coffee and donuts as well as cheese and crackers.

Trips planned by the club will be available at the next meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 16. Jim Moses, who does variety acts, will be the entertainment. All meetings start at 1 p.m. and are held at the Elks Hall on Low Street.
