This Day in History

On this day in 1811, the Newburyport Herald reported that in the prior year, 21 ships, 13 brigs and one schooner were built on the Merrimack River. Newburyport merchants owned 41 ships, 49 brigs, four barks and 50 schooners during the 1810 calendar year.
