Text of statement from mayor, council

The following is the text of the statement released by Mayor Donna Holaday and the City Council:

“The mayor and City Council are committed to completing the investigation and finding solutions to potential design and construction issues in the Plum Island water and sewer system.

“We are exercising every available option including legal and technical experts, and working in conjunction with state agencies and our legislators.

“Public disclosure is restricted by the constrains of litigation strategy which requires us to exercise caution.

“Everything is being done to protect the citizens and all ratepayers. The system is operational and the city endeavors to maintain the level of service you deserve.

“The mayor will be hosting a meeting in mid-February where more details will be provided to the public.”
