Immigration and unintended consequences
On Wednesday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. at The First Religious Society, 26 Pleasant St., the Immigration Matters Study Group will meet in the lower meetinghouse. Dr. Michael Sandberg, civil surgeon with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service in Boston, will lead the discussion. Congress seems ready to enact comprehensive immigration reform. Eleven million undocumented immigrants in this country are hoping for a path to citizenship when the new law is enacted. However, there are other aspects of the current law that directly harm the U.S. economy that are not well known and also should be revised. The topic will be “The Unintended Consequences of Current US Immigration Law” and how things could be improved when the law is changed. The evening is free and open to the public.
