Applicants sought for City Council vacancy

NEWBURYPORT — Residents interested in replacing City Councilor Kathleen O’Connor Ives when she assumes her new role in the state Senate in January are invited to submit a resume to city officials.

Letters of interest and resumes will be collected until noon on Friday, Dec. 14. They may be dropped off at the city clerk’s office in City Hall or marked to the attention of City Council President Tom O’Brien, also at City Hall.

Ives recently stated that she will be leaving her position on Jan. 1.

Because she is an at-large candidate, the council will choose a replacement for the one-year vacancy.

City officials say that the council will likely name the new member by Jan. 12.
