City launches Clipper Heritage Trail website

---- — NEWBURYPORT — Mayor Donna D. Holaday has announced the launch of the Clipper Heritage Trail website,, designed to assist tourists, day-trippers, residents and schools in discovering Newburyport’s rich history.

According to Holaday, “this website allows the participant to step back in time and walk in the footsteps of shipbuilders, sea captains, bakers, clam diggers and comb makers, as well as silversmiths and soldiers, abolitionists, authors and artists.”

The website features a welcome video, 12 self-guided history tours describing 125 different locations of historic points of interest with over 200 historical images and downloadable maps and brochures. This site also includes a historical timeline, local resources and publications, bibliographies and quotes of those who lived in Newburyport during the 18th and 19th centuries.

“This exciting website is a wonderful asset showcasing Newburyport’s notable and lively history; a perfect addition to the vibrant tourist industry in our community,” Holaday said in a press release.

In addition to this website, a mobile application will be unveiled in May.
