Rail trail murals on exhibit at art association

---- — For the next week, March 5 through 11, the town of Salisbury, in conjunction with the Newburyport Art Association, will hold an exhibit of the murals that will be installed along the new rail trail connector running under the Route 1 Gillis Bridge that spans the Merrimack River between Salisbury and Newburyport.

The exhibit will be mounted in the Laura Coombe Hill Gallery at the Newburyport Art Association, 65 Water St., from Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m..

From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, a special reception is planned concerning the exhibit, with town and state officials presenting a program on the project at 6:30 p.m.

The murals are slated to be mounted at their permanent site on the concrete Gillis Bridge abutments this spring in time for the first annual Salisbury Art Stroll on May 18. Those utilizing the town’s Old Eastern Marsh Trail will be able to enjoy the murals and the area beneath the bridge, as they safely cross Route 1 using the connector.

The Sea Spray Garden Club will be meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 11, at East Parish United Methodist Church, 8 Lafayette Road.

This month’s speaker is Cheryl Cravino of Hosta Amour Garden in Windham, N.H. For hosta lovers, this is an event not to be missed. Those who aren’t already fans of the wonderful species will be fans after the meeting.

Bullying will be the topic of a seminar at a pizza luncheon at the Salisbury Council on Aging at noon on Wednesday, March 20, at the Hilton Center.

The state’s legislative agenda will be featured at the upcoming March 21 dinner meeting of the Salisbury Chamber of Commerce, when legislators Rep. Michael Costello and Sen. Kathleen O’Connor Ives are the featured speakers.

The meeting will take place at 6 p.m. in the Ocean Room of the Pavilion, located at Salisbury Beach on Ocean Front North. The cost is $25 per person, and reservations are required by March 16. They can be made by calling the chamber at 978-465-3581.

The Planning Department is taking applications for those who would like to have a piece of land to farm in Salisbury’s Community Garden during the coming growing season. The garden is located off Old County Road.

Following its inaugural year of operation in 2012, the gardening option for residents has three size lots. For a fee of $30, plots are available that are 15-by-15 feet. A 15-by-30-foot lot is $40, and the largest size, a 30-by-30-foot plot, is $50.
