---- — On this day in 1863: After sailing from Calcutta, India, with a general cargo for Boston, the 940-ton Newburyport-built ship Star of Peace, owned in part by John Currier of Newburyport, was captured and burned by the Confederate cruiser Florida. Nineteen years later the owners were reimbursed by the “Court of Commissioners of Alabama Claims” to the sum of $83,884.
