Turkey Dinner at Salisbury church

East Parish United Methodist Church will be having its Annual Turkey Dinner on Saturday, Oct. 26, 4:30-6:30 p.m. Cost is $9 per person, children 6 and under, $6. All meals include beverage and dessert. Takeouts are also available. The church is located at 8 Lafayette Road, Salisbury Square. Tickets will be sold at the door.

Zen meditation instruction offered

Free, Zen meditation instruction is offered Monday nights at the First Religious Society, 26 Pleasant St., Newburyport. The practice sessions meet in the lower meetinghouse from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. For first-time participants, the 6 p.m. orientation session is recommended. The instructor is Joyce Haydock, Dharma teacher with the Kwan Um School of Zen (KUSZ) for more than 22 years. For more information, contact Joyce Haydock at 978-363-5457.

Intro to meditation classes offered

The Insight Meditation Center of Newburyport will offer a drop-in beginner’s meditation class on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 7-8:30 p.m,, $15; there will also be a five-week class entitled “An Introduction to Insight Meditation” starting Thursday, Nov. 7, 7-8:30 p.m., $95. The classes are designed for anyone interested in learning Insight Meditation (Vipassana). Vipassana is a simple practice that steadies the mind by grounding attention in the present moment; it originated in the Buddhist tradition more than 2,500 years ago. ALPHA Parenting Teenagers offered at Hope Church

The Parenting Teenagers Course is for any parents, step-parents or caregivers of children aged 11-18 years. Meeting teenagers’ deepest needs, setting healthy boundaries, helping to develop their emotional health and teaching them how to make good choices takes skill and dedication. Taking time to reflect on the end goal can help build relationships with teenagers now. The course will be held at Hope Community Church, 11 Hale St. in Newburyport from 6:30-8:30 p.m. for five weeks beginning Monday. The course costs $40, but scholarships are available.
