Fur Ball Auction slated for Saturday in Salisbury

SALISBURY — The Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society will hold its 19th annual Fur Ball Auction fundraising event, featuring celebrity guest auctioneer Randy Price of WCVB Channel 5 News, on Saturday from 6-10 p.m. at the Blue Ocean Music Hall.

The event’s Lead Sponsor is the Institution for Savings. Proceeds will support veterinary treatment for injured and sick cats assisted by the MRFRS. The evening will include silent and live auctions, gourmet appetizers, cash bar and DJ. Online bidding opportunities will also be available through Bidding for Good, which can be accessed via the MRFRS website,

“The Fur Ball continues to be a cornerstone of our fundraising efforts and is a highly recognizable community event,” said Bill Piercey, executive director, in a press release. “This year we have a wide variety of auction items where there is something for everyone. The Fur Ball Auction helps us continue our programming to aid cats and kittens in need.”

Twenty-one years ago, a small group of concerned citizens organized an effort to respond to sick and starving cats on the Newburyport and Salisbury waterfronts. Today, MRFRS has grown to serve 150 communities throughout eastern and central Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire. The MRFRS now operates two mobile spay/neuter clinics known as the “Catmobiles,” which bring low-cost spay/neuter services throughout the region.

This year alone, the society has adopted out over 600 cats to permanent homes, spayed/neutered and vaccinated more than 1,300 free-roaming cats, and provided more than 12,000 owned cats throughout central and eastern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire with affordable, high-quality spay/neuter services. Since it founding in 1992, the organization has assisted over 50,000 cats and kittens. For more information, visit
