Mission Sunday at Old South Church

Mission Sunday is tomorrow at Old South Church, Federal and School streets, Newburyport. It’s a celebration of the world with Outreach Foundations’ the Rev. Dr. Rob Weingartner preaching and teaching Sunday School. Sunday School starts at 9:15 a.m. Service is at 10:30 a.m. Missions Lunch will follow service. Nursery care provided.

Sermon on climate change tomorrow

Tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. at The First Religious Society, 26 Pleasant St., Newburyport, the Rev. Harold Babcock will deliver a sermon titled “Climate Change as a Moral Issue.” For over a year, the Climate Action Project participants of the First Religious Society have been educating themselves about global climate change. The sermon will investigate this critical issue in preparation for a recommendation for “responsible and acceptable action” by the congregation.

Programs at the Port Church

The Port Church Youth Group will meet the first and third Sundays from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Oct. 20, Nov. 3, Nov. 17, Dec. 8 and Dec. 22. All youth grades 6-12 are welcome. During regular groups we share a meal, study and discuss faith topics, play games and connect with one another. We also host special outings such as laser tag, Christian concerts, sledding and lock-ins.

“Skits and Grits” Kids Ministry at the Port Church. The six-week class will be held Oct. 20, Oct. 27, Nov. 17 and Nov. 24 at 10-11 a.m. for K-6 during worship. Kids will act out Bible stories in fun, modern-language skits on some weeks and will cook up tasty recipes on other weeks that teach a culinary skill as well as connect with the Bible.
