Fashion event encourages shopping local

AMESBURY — In an effort to encourage folks to shop small and locally for the holidays, select Amesbury clothing and accessory retailers are teaming up with the Ladies Guild at Holy Family to showcase their seasonal merchandise.

“The event, entitled Fashions of the Season, will be a great time to see all the new fashions that will be available at Amesbury downtown retailers for one’s Christmas shopping,” said Deb Pagley, proprietor of the Parke Place Boutique in a press release. “And then by shopping locally, helping our community prosper.”

“Pagley is definitely on to something when it comes to helping the community,” said Georgianna Parkin, state director for the Massachusetts Small Business Development Centers. “On average, for every $100 spent at locally owned businesses, an additional $66 is contributed to the local economy compared to $39 when the same amount is spent at national chains.”

Fashions of the Season will be held on Sunday, Nov. 17, at 2 p.m. in the Holy Family Parish Hall. The fashion show will exhibit the latest styles for the season hosted by the Parke Place Boutique, Real Bodies — Clothing from Bali, The Fashion Bus, C Meadows Boutique and other Amesbury retailers.

Spectators will enjoy both fashion and fellowship; be encouraged to shop small and local; taste some delectable cheese and crackers, yummy desserts and assorted beverages; and perhaps win a gift certificate to a local purveyor of beautiful goods.

The event is open to the entire community. Reservations for tickets, which cost $20 each, can be made at the Parke Place Boutique, 42 Main St., or by calling Agnes David at 978-388-9003.

“Whether we get dressed with our eyes closed or view style as an art form, we all wear clothes, and we all need to start thinking about the impact our purchases have on our local community; see what Amesbury has to offer — come and bring a friend,” said Pagley.
