Cancer survivor celebration June 27

NEWBURYPORT — Commonwealth Newburyport Cancer Center and the Amesbury-based charitable organization Tough Warrior Princesses will host a Cancer Survivor Celebration on Thursday, June 27, at the Firehouse Center for the Arts in Newburyport.

The annual event is designed to honor survivors and their families by providing hope, strength, courage and love to the community.

A mixer will begin at 6 p.m. during which survivors and caregivers can interact and meet local businesses that provide services and resources to survivors.

At 7 p.m., the evening’s program will begin as survivors and caregivers share their writings of hope. Local dancer Alexa Mellon will perform a tribute to caregivers as she dances to Martina McBride’s “I’m Gonna Love You Through it.”

Newburyport resident Denise DeSimone will give the keynote address. DeSimone is a stage IV throat and neck cancer survivor. Following her talk, the audience will be invited to join in a butterfly release, weather permitting.
