---- — NEWBURYPORT — The Rotary Club of Newburyport said thank-you to outgoing club President Liz Jutras at her last meeting as president on June 25.
Jutras summarized the club’s accomplishments this year, especially their 90th anniversary celebration. Because of this successful fundraiser, the Rotary Club was able to make significant contributions to Turning Point’s Safe Recovery program for young mothers and their children, and to the Salvation Army in Newburyport.
Lt. Jeff Brunelle of the Salvation Army said, “The Newburyport Rotary Club’s generous gift to The Salvation Army makes it possible for 20 local kids to attend summer camp regardless of their parents’ ability to pay. We are so thankful that Rotary has partnered with us in our mission to restore hope to some of the most vulnerable families right here in our own community.”
Turning Point board member Claudia Harris added, “With this donation we can continue to move forward ‘making a shelter a home.’”
At the end of the meeting the gavel was turned over to incoming president Cindy Johnson. The meeting also marked the last luncheon to be held at Glenn’s Restaurant on Merrimac Street. As of July 1, the club will hold their weekly lunch meetings at Andiamo Restaurant, 24 Winter St.
