High School Battle of the Bands Friday

---- — NEWBURYPORT — Yankee Homecoming will host the third annual High School Battle of the Bands on Friday from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Market Landing Park.

Watch eight local high school bands battle it out for the right to be the opening act for Rock Bottom at the Tuesday night waterfront concert. The winner will also receive a recording session at On the Fringe Studios in West Newbury and a $100 check.

The winner will be decided by the audience. Each attendee with receive a ticket, which is their vote. This year a second-place band will also be announced. The winner of the second place will receive a check for $100 and $50 gift certificates amounting to $50 for The Guitar Center, thanks in part to Acting Out! Studios.

Anyone who purchases a ticket for Friday night has the opportunity to win a number of raffle prizes. The big raffle prize is a gift certificate for lunch and lift tickets for two at The Mountain Club on Loon Mountain.

“We started this event three years ago to get local high school students involved in Yankee Homecoming,” said Cheryl Munick, chairwoman of High School Battle of the Bands. “This year the number of bands competing has doubled from last year. It should really be exciting to watch. We are also lucky to have the band, Way to the River, loaning us their sound system and a number of instruments to help the event go off smoothly.”
