Friday is the deadline to pull election papers

NEWBURYPORT — Friday is the last day to obtain nomination papers for this fall’s municipal elections.

The final date to submit nomination papers is Tuesday, Aug. 6, at 5 p.m., according to officials in the city clerk’s office.

Voters will elect a mayor, 11 city councilors and three School Committee members. The primary election is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 17; final election is slated for Tuesday, Nov. 5.

Municipal leaders say four people have taken out papers to run for mayor, and close to two dozen residents have pulled papers to run for seats on the City Council. A recent review showed there were two candidates for School Committee, officials say.
