---- — AMESBURY – Today is the last day to renew dog licenses in Amesbury, and City Clerk Bonnijo Kitchin said that residents who don’t do so by Tuesday could be subject to fines.

Dogs in Amesbury must be licensed when they are six months old regardless of the time of year, and new or renewed license applications should include a valid rabies certificate and proof of spay or neuter along with payment.

Licenses cost $15 for male or females and $10 for dogs that have been spayed or neutered, and kennel licenses range in cost from $30 for up to four dogs and $120 for more than 10. Residents who fail to renew their license by April 1 will be assessed a late fee.

Residents who have not yet renewed can do so online at the city’s website, by mailing a check to City Hall or by paying in person on Monday during normal business hours.

Kitchin said that since City Hall is closed over the weekend, residents who haven’t renewed their licenses yet will have the opportunity to do so in person without being fined on Monday, but starting on Tuesday, April 2, anyone who hasn’t renewed their license will be subject to fines.

To pay online, residents should go to, click the “Pay Online” option and follow the instructions. To pay by mail, send an application and payment to the City Clerk’s office at 62 Friend St.
