This day in history

On this day in 1779, John Bromfield was born. Having made a fortune in the China trade and in Europe as an agent for American merchant houses, he invested his money in Boston where he liberally dispensed it to worthy charitable institutions. “South Street” was formally changed to “Bromfield Street” in his honor.
