Master Plan discussion continues

NEWBURYPORT — Do you appreciate Newburyport’s cultural resources and have ideas on how to support them and their growth?

Do you care about the condition of our streets, sidewalks and infrastructure?

How can the city improve its public services so that residents’ needs continue to be met?

The city invites residents to join staff and volunteers as they discuss three more Master Plan chapters: Cultural Resources, Transportation and Public Facilities and Services.

Newburyport’s Master Plan will be a compilation of nine distinct chapters focusing on topics ranging from land use and development to education, cultural resources and energy and sustainability. The first four Plan chapters — Land Use and Development, Natural Resources, Open Space and Recreation, Housing and Energy and Sustainability — were recently discussed.

Tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. in the City Hall Auditorium, subcommittee members will present their draft goals, objectives and actions for three more: Cultural Resources, Transportation and Public Facilities and Services. In addition to learning about all of the work the subcommittees have been doing, residents will be able to voice opinions and let them know whether you agree with the direction these four Master Plan chapters are heading.

“All of our project volunteers are diligently working to transform the community feedback they have received into concrete, achievable actions that the city will work to implement over the course of the next 10 years. This meeting, focusing on the next three chapters of the Master Plan, is another opportunity for the community to hear about the project, ask questions, offer suggestions and provide guidance to our subcommittees,” said Mayor Donna Holaday in a press release.

In addition to the meeting Wednesday, the city will be scheduling a fourth, chapter-specific public meeting in the upcoming weeks where the Education and Economic Development chapters will be discussed. This date will be announced on the city’s website.
