Energy meeting canceled for tonight

NEWBURYPORT — A workshop on energy efficiency announced for tonight at Plum Island Coffee Roasters at 54R Merrimac St. will not take place.

A similar program was administered last week.

However, upcoming seminars include the following: September, Going Solar; December, Heating and Cooling Systems upgrade; February, insulation; and April, Energy Efficiency (repeat).

National Grid this spring chose Newburyport as one of five communities in the region to receive support for its Community Energy Efficiency program.

The city, through its Recycling and Energy Office, has partnered with Next Step Living, a home energy solutions company that provides expertise and staffing for spreading the word of greater efficiency in the household.

Organizers say benefits of the program include energy-saving lightbulbs, water-savings devices and more efficient thermostats.

Free audits are offered, and managers say any recommended insulation improvement qualifies for a 75 percent-off immediate incentive.
