This Day in Newburyport History

On this day in 1848, Newburyport’s Captain Robert Couch aboard the Brig Samson sailing from Key West towards New Orleans recorded: “[Today] begins with the same light winds from the west and calm weather...at 7am was boarded by the master of the Brig Calendola from Palermo for New Orleans. 89 days out and loaded with fruit and wines. Supplied her with small stores..”
