This Day in Newburyport History

On this day in 1860, Newburyport’s Captain James Knapp Pritchard aboard the Ship Cape Fear Not sailing from Boston towards Liverpool recorded: “[Today] came in with light winds and clear weather...Fred Keyser sick off duty...throughout the night light airs and fine [weather]...the crew employed making and putting on the chafing gear...pumps carefully attended.”
