Village Theatre Co. stages 'Sherlock Holmes' this weekend

WEST NEWBURY – Join the Village Theatre Company this weekend as it presents the summertime comedy, “The Secret Case of Sherlock Holmes” by Craig Sodaro.

The show opens at the Laurel Grange, 21 Garden St., tonight at 7 p.m.

With many levels of depth and humor, the play is a mystery featuring upstart detectives Sherlock Holmes and his associate Dr. Watson as they tackle the first case. Their client, a young H.G. Wells, has hired the novice detectives to find a manuscript by Arthur Conan Doyle.

Hiding from their landlord, Holmes and Watson duck into Wells' time machine, push a few buttons and soon find themselves in the 21st century at the Freudly institute where they meet patients who think they are famous characters such as Count Dracula, Tarzan and Lizzie Borden.

Other performances are tomorrow at 2 and 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $12 and can be ordered at www.villagetheatrecompany.org.

The Village Theatre Company is a local non-profit community theatre that encourages people of all ages to audition for the three shows it produces annually. Volunteers to help behind the scenes are also welcome. Visit the troupe's website for more information or to receive notices about future plays and auditions.
