Teen found safe near Lake Gardner

AMESBURY — Local and Merrimac firefighters searched a large section of Lake Gardner yesterday afternoon after receiving word that a 15-year-old boy was nowhere to be found more than an hour after he was last seen leaving a Unicorn Circle residence in a canoe.

The boy was found by Merrimac firefighters around 2:20 p.m. by the Jewell Street bridge in South Hampton. The teen was driven back to the Unicorn Circle residence by a friend and the canoe towed to shore by Merrimac firefighters traveling in a Boston Whaler motorboat.

It is unknown whether the boy is a resident of the Unicorn Circle household that reported him missing, as a call to Amesbury police was not immediately returned.

Merrimac firefighters launched their boat from the Glen Devin Street apartments, while Amesbury firefighters were stationed at the water's edge along Whitehall Lake Condominiums.SClB
