Police urge vigilance after house break

---- — BYFIELD -- Local police are asking neighbors to be extra mindful of suspicious behavior following Tuesday afternoon’s housebreak on Orchard Street.

Deputy police Chief John Lucey Jr. said at least one person forced their way into the unoccupied house sometime between late morning and early afternoon, taking an unspecified amount of cash. Police are conducting an inventory to determine if any other items were taken. Lucey said police officers were alerted by the owner who came home to discover the house had been burglarized.

While a house near the general vicinity of Orchard Street, located between Route 1 and Central Street, was burglarized several months ago, this marks the first housebreak in town since then. The lead investigator of the burglary is Detective Aaron Wojtkowski, according to police.

“Keep an eye out for things out of the ordinary,” Lucey said, adding resident shouldn’t hesitate to call police if they spot anything suspicious.
