Essex County rugby team to compete for state championship

Essex County U19

The Essex County U19 team, coached by Dave Hill, will compete against Berkshire in the High School Club State Championship tomorrow. The undefeated Essex County squad has posted victories over Portland, Springfield, Andover, Seacoast, Worcester and Newport, R.I. this season.

Essex County U12

The Essex County team is 1-0-1 through three matches. The next match is June 2 at Pipestave Hill.


Georgetown 19, North Shore Tech 1

The Royals (12-6) were led by senior Curtis Putnam, who was 4 for 5 with two RBI and two runs scored. Alan Navarro went 2 for 2 with an RBI. Dan Manning was also 2 for 2 with three RBI and a run scored.

North Reading 5, Triton 0

The Vikings (7-9) missed the state tournament by one match after winning a total of two matches in the previous three seasons.

Boys Lacrosse

Gloucester 8, Georgetown 2

Jake Mitchell and Neil Murphy scored goals for Georgetown (9-9). Jared Warren had an assist. JoJo Mangano made eight saves.


Amesbury 13, Manchester Essex 0

Rachel Cyr led Amesbury (17-1) Wednesday by pitching the complete game. She allowed three hits and struck out 14. Cyr also had three hits and three RBI. Ashley Valme also had three hits and two RBI.
