Rolling through summer

'Que 'N Brew' trailer brings the party with it

By Michelle Pelletier Marshall

---- — ROWLEY — Twenty-three-year-old Chris Breen had built a few meat smokers for friends when he finally decided it was time to build one for himself.

Once he got building, the project mushroomed to include an entire platform of fun, known around town as the “Que ’N Brew,” that houses a grill area, music, TV and two beer taps, all encased in a custom mahogany and fir wooden bar area.

The 20-foot-long, 8-foot-wide and 10-foot-tall unit, complete with electricity and plumbing, houses a custom smoker, an 18-inch stainless steel sink, drop-down tables, stereo surround sound and a 32-inch HD-TV that has turned his project from a “rolling party to a custom fabricated piece of artwork.” The unit also features a custom curly maple wood countertop.

Breen, who bought his condominium in Rowley on Longmeadow Drive when he was just 21, worked on the trailer over the last three years while working full-time at Port Sheet Metal in Newburyport, a job he took after graduating from Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School in 2008.

Breen estimates that he has put at least 1,000 of hours of his time into the project, along with more than $10,000 of his money.

And while the Que ’N Brew is for sale to the right bidder, Breen is putting it to the test now and has bookings for parties throughout the summer and fall — parties that include birthdays, cookouts, family events and even weddings. Prices vary depending on what meats are served. Though smoked ribs are Breen’s specialty, he will cook chicken, steaks, sausage, burgers and hot dogs too.

Breen introduced the Que ’N Brew at a launch party in June for 150 friends and family guests. It turned out, he said, to be “the perfect amount of food, beer and good music,” which included 21 racks of ribs served plus other barbecue items, three kegs of craft beer and music provided by two hired bands.

“I started this as a fun project and just wanted the Que ’N Brew to look cool,” said Breen. “It’s grown to be a lot more than that and I’m excited to see how the summer goes with the party schedule, hoping, too, that it will catch the attention of the right person, who will buy the Que ’N Brew and have fun with it as well.”
